Living alone is preferable for many, but for men, it could spell trouble for their health. According to a new study, men who live alone have a higher risk of inflammation, something that could affect different aspects of their health.

The study was published in the journal BMJ, and it looked at people’s health and their years living alone, analyzing over 4,835 blood samples of people with an average age of 54. Researchers kept track of participants’ breakups since these tend to preclude periods of solo living. While in women researchers found no negative side effects, men showed interesting findings.

“We have found a significant association between partnership breakups or years lived alone and inflammation for men only, after adjustment for selected confounders,” study author Dr. Karolina Davidsen told CNN. Inflammation can refer to a lot of things, but researchers have found connections between it and people’s nervous system, suggesting that stress can trigger this physical response and increase the odds of heart disease and other adverse conditions.

Dr. Davidsen says that while women didn’t report this finding, one reason for this could be the fact that there were fewer women in the study than men.

Living alone for long periods of time is not something that can be easily corrected, so researchers suggest fighting off these possible negative side effects by maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle, like eating healthy and keeping your body moving. Maintaining an eye on your feelings and keeping track of them could also be positive, helping people gauge whether or not they’re feeling lonely, supplementing this with time spent alongside friends and family.

From a medical standpoint, this information could help health practitioners diagnose and support their patients better. Now that there are scientific studies that show evidence that single men are at higher risk of inflammation when compared to other groups, medical practitioners could advise their patients more accurately and build off of these findings.

Vegan Whole Wheat Pumpkin Bread made with Overripe Bananas, Hemp Flour & Hearts & Pecan Pieces flavored with Maple Syrup, Orange Zest & Warm Spices

DAIRY-FREE/OVO-PESCATARIAN/PLANT BASED/VEGAN/VEGETARIAN

Total: 70 minutes

Prep: 10 minutes

Servings: 12 slices

Allergens: gluten, tree nuts, wheat

Perfume your house by baking this easy to make fall inspired bread that is made with all plant ingredients. Hemp adds a boost of protein, omega fatty acids and essential amino acids, pecans provide a nice crunchy texture, and the pumpkin and banana purees add moisture to offset the fiber rich whole wheat flour. Snack on this guilt-free recipe next time you want to sink your teeth into something sweet!

Egg replacer, which is made from potato and tapioca starches, is used in place of fresh eggs to make this recipe vegan friendly. You can purchase this product online or at most whole food, vegan and organic stores and it acts just the same as eggs do for baked goods, as a binder for a perfectly baked loaf. If you can’t find this product, use ground flax seeds to create what is called a “flax egg.” (Recipe: 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 2 tablespoons water, then let it stand for 10 minutes until it’s thickened).

Pumpkin Banana Hemp Bread Recipe

Ingredients

WET

  • ½ cup of vegan butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup of brown coconut sugar
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 egg replacer eggs or flax egg, see instructions on package
  • 1 cup of canned unsweetened pumpkin purée
  • 1 cup (about 2 large) overripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DRY

  • 1-¼ cup of whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup of hemp flour
  • 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon of pumpkin spice
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of orange zest

Steps

1.) Preheat an oven to 350F and gather all your ingredients. Below are some of the products I used.

2.) Mash the bananas in a small bowl, and mix it with all the other wet ingredients and whisk everything together.

3.) Combine all the dry ingredients into another big bowl. Whisk everything together until uniform.

4.) Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, transfer the batter into a greased loaf tin or silicone mold and use a spatula to even out the top.

5.) Bake in the oven on the middle rack for 1 hour or until a toothpick or skewer is inserted and comes out clean. You may need an additional 5-15 minutes depending on how hot your oven is. Keep checking after the first 55-60 minutes. Remove from the oven once the pumpkin banana bread is done, cool in the pan for 15 minutes before serving.

6.) Carefully remove the bread from the loaf pan, slice and serve with more vegan butter!

Tips

  • Storing: Make sure to cool completely before transferring this into an airtight container. This will keep for up to 9 days in the fridge or 5 days on the counter. There’s a lot of moisture in this recipe so make sure to check for any mold after the 5th day if left outside.
  • The cooler the bread is, the easier it is to slice. If you decide to wait an hour or more before you eat this, microwave it in the oven for 10 seconds before serving so it feels as if it just came out of a hot oven.
  • It is important mixing the wet and dry ingredients separately to avoid overmixing the batter or uneven distribution of ingredients. (Over mixing the batter will make the bread too tough)

Q&A

  • Can I use coconut oil instead of vegan butter? Yes! Coconut oil is a healthier alternative anyway so go ahead. I use vegan butter because it makes the bread so, dare I say, buttery.
  • Can I substitute a different type of sugar in place of the brown coconut sugar? Why not? Use whatever you have on hand. I use coconut sugar because it has a lower glycemic index than its counterparts.
  • I don’t have pecans at the moment, can I use something else? Walnuts, peanuts, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds or a combination of any of these work well with the flavors in this recipe as well.

Despite hundreds of acres of open space within the city of Irvine, which includes 98 tennis courts, 64 soccer fields, numerous baseball fields and dozens of miles of biking trails, the city is working to address a growing need – badminton courts.

In fact, a petition being circulated by local badminton players has gained more than 1,000 signatures. Additionally, members of the Irvine City Council received a letter from U.S. Badminton’s Chief Executive Officer Linda French, emphasizing that the implementation of badminton courts in the city of Irvine would “greatly enhance” life in Irvine, especially for badminton enthusiasts.

On Tuesday, Jan. 11, the Irvine City Council unanimously voted to direct the city manager to identify indoor and outdoor space within the city to be specifically dedicated to badminton.

Prior to the vote, Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan said she recently learned about the importance of the sport to the community, and after meeting with local badminton players, added she would support the idea of creating dedicated community space to the sport of badminton.

“I want to thank the community for their commitment because I believe this was brought up in 2014, and then again in 2016 – and today with over 1,000 people signing on to the petition,” Khan said. “I look forward to finding opportunities to find appropriate space for the sport in Irvine.”

Despite not having any official badminton courts in Irvine, council member Anthony Kuo said he’s had some recent first-hand experience watching people play badminton in his neighborhood.

“I was backing out of my driveway, and in the rearview mirror were two of my neighbors, in the middle of the street, playing badminton. I have lived there for the most recent two years – and I actually used to live in that home for about 15 years before – and they’ve never played badminton,” he said. “So either the group that’s proposing badminton has infiltrated my neighbors and have figured out a way to get me on board, or this really is fortuitous and badminton is a very, very fast-growing sport.”

Kuo learned that he was unaware there needed to be dedicated space for the sport, adding that he thinks the pandemic has forced the majority of suitable space to close.

“I think a major reason why there’s been an upwelling of support, aside from the natural growth of interest, is that the traditional locations where one could play have been closed temporarily due to the pandemic (UC Irvine, Irvine Valley College, and the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center),” Kuo wrote in a text to Irvine Weekly

Unfortunately, that may be the reality, according to Irvine resident and local badminton instructor, Bob Gilmour.

Gilmour addressed the council during public comment on January 11. In his speech, Gilmour, who said he was nearly 70, said he continues to be an avid badminton player and spends time coaching the sport and Irvine Chinese School.

But Gilmour added that more room is needed.

“Badminton is booming in Irvine and Orange County. There is so much demand for badminton from Irvine’s youth that I started a Sunday youth program at El Toro High School to teach everyone the basics of this sport,” he said. “The program was active from 2013 to 2020, and at that time I have enrolled over 300 students — about 90% are from Irvine.”

Recently, Gilmour explained that “policy changes” within the school district shut down the badminton program. Now teaching badminton at Irvine Chinese School, Gilmour said classes are overflowing but are only open to Irvine Chinese School students.

“Accessibility has always been a challenge, even for me, and I have to travel to play,” Gilmour said. “With so many people playing badminton and getting into the sport, I believe Irvine should have a permanent home for badminton.”

Figuring out how to last longer in bed has been the goal of every man.

After all, sexual intimacy is not just about the physical aspects but also the entire emotional bonding between the partners. The need to satisfy each other persists throughout, leading to a host of reasons, resulting in premature ejaculation or finishing early.

However, in finding the answer to “how to last longer in bed,” it is imperative to break the mythical glass around sex. Per research conducted across five countries, vaginal intercourse lasts around 5 to 6 minutes, and not hours on end.  In fact, between 30% and 40% of men experience premature ejaculation at some point in their life, and is the most common type of sexual dysfunction in men according to the American Urological Association.

The pre-thought of lasting long until a set duration is a major reason for down performance and self-doubts. Sexual intimacy is not just the penetration phase but the overall experience and feelings both partners undergo during that time.

Here are 11 tips on how to last longer in bed naturally and have a better sexual experience without the “big off”.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Reduce performance Anxiety with CBD

The day’s stress, racing thoughts, future planning, and the reigning thought to perform better in the bed. This multiple obsessive thinking in a person is enough to trigger performance anxiety. Consequently, premature ejaculation or leaving your partner unsatisfied can result. However, this can be overcome with the right mindset and a bit of nudge.

That nudge towards better relaxation and focus can come with the help of some CBD oil. CBD can greatly relax your entire self and help you focus on the present and not trigger anxiety. It is also claimed that CBD can increase the duration of partnered sex by 51%. It helps in stimulating the bliss hormone anandamide and stimulates the genitalia area for better and longer sexual experiences and orgasms.

Wondering how to last longer in bed? Consider taking CBD along with your partner to enhance the duration wholesomely. BATCH CBD offers a CALM CBD Blend specially formulated to help slow your mental motor and bring you back to a balanced state. Take a few drops and you should be feeling cool as a cucumber in no time.

Practice The “Squeeze” Technique

Some behavioral techniques can greatly enhance your performance and help last longer in bed. One such technique is the Squeeze method. Like edging, this technique can be used when you are a split away from reaching orgasm.

It is essential to break contact the moment you perceive being close to “the edge”, like the stop-start method. Next, you must squeeze the head portion of the penis promptly. The required pressure varies as you will understand how much is required to delay orgasm. Here, quick actions are the key.

If the technique is implemented aptly, it will bring you back to the pre-climax level, and you can resume. It can be done multiple times during intercourse to delay the final climax desirably. Communicating with your partner will also enhance the technique and increase mutual pleasure.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor Muscles

It is scientifically proven that stronger pelvic floor muscles grant greater control over ejaculation during intimacy. Pelvic floor exercises can be time-consuming, but the results are positive and satisfying. Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles will help in better managing ejaculation and contributes to a stronger lower body.

The important aspect is for you to find the correct muscles. These are the same muscles responsible for halting urination mid-stream. Once located, you can begin performing Kegel exercises. The most effective way is to lie down and perform the same. Focus on avoiding contraction of your abdomen and thigh muscles.

Contract the pelvic muscles for three seconds, and relax for three seconds. This pattern can be repeated numerous times, and it is essential to stick to your technique and frequency. Consistency is key.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Use A Condom

Condoms’ sole objective is not only birth control and safety. They are excellent to help delay ejaculation and continue intimacy longer, satisfyingly. Avoid using ultra-thin categories. If normal variants are not significant in decaying, then try desensitizing condoms.

These are generally coated with benzocaine and add an extra level of control during sexual activity. The desensitizing gel poses a minimal adverse side effect on your partner’s sexual throes.  Choosing the right condom can be one of the simplest ways to last longer in bed for men.

Slow Things Down.

Hurry, in any case, is going to spoil the experience. Sexual intimacy is not a race as to who reaches the edge first. The emotional element of intimacy ought to be respected as well. Warming up your partner before intercourse can effectively control the arousal and stimulation, resulting in better and longer intimacy. A few drops of CBD oil may also make it easier for you to take your time.

Incorporating foreplay will make your partner feel loved, cherished, and gradually aroused. Lasting longer during sex does not need to rely solely on vaginal penetration. Back massages and arousing words can even be used to delay your orgasm while bringing your partner closer to it.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Use A Delay Spray

If you want an immediate and effective solution to last longer, delay sprays are the best option. These contain desensitizing components and are safe to use. However, it is essential to adequately and appropriately spray it.

A good quality spray will have a standard metered spraying mechanism, helping you apply the desired quantity. Overuse may lead to numbing of your partner, making it difficult for them to reach climax. You should apply the spray several minutes before and not a few minutes earlier.

Initially, use a delay spray in slow doses and figure out how much works for you. Applying it thoroughly on the head and the entire length is crucial for maximum results. The goal is to decrease sensitivity in the penis just enough to give you better control without eliminating pleasure entirely.

Masturbate Beforehand

Pent-up sexual urges can lead to early or premature ejaculation. This can be tackled with masturbating and climaxing before sex. Thus, the sexual build-up is not extremely strong during actual intimacy.  Rather, this will help you slowly build the required crescendo and reach the highest pitch.

However, this tip varies from person to person, and you should consider your personal case before undertaking this measure.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Try Edging

The edging method is another physical technique that can help treat premature ejaculation. The trick is to understand when you are approaching the point of no return and apply zero contact at the right time.

Once you perceive you are in the pre-arousal state, sexual activity can resume. You can do it once or multiple times throughout intercourse. As a bonus, this technique also produces a stronger final release, owing to the built-up tension.

It is essential to discuss this technique with your partner beforehand. The sudden stop phases may cause frustration and displeasure.

Use Positions That Give You More Control

Try using sex positions which grant you greater control. The focus is to avoid overstimulation, owing to deep and strongly stimulating positions. Pay attention to your partner and you will find ways to leave you both satisfied even without deep penetration.

Finding the right sex position is yet another way to last longer for men without any side effects. Plus, experimenting with new positions in bed is an easy way to keep things fun and fresh for both you and your partner.

How To Last Longer In Bed: Incorporate Cardio Exercises

Research shows that boosting your cardio health greatly affects all aspects of body functions, including sexual performance. Cardio-intensive exercises build-up stamina and improve blood flow throughout. It also equips you with a better physique to boost endurance and self-confidence. Thus, incorporating necessary cardio workouts can help in performance improvement in the long run.

Lifestyle Implications

Distinctive lifestyles also contribute towards performances in the bedroom and even can make sex last longer. The lifestyle you incorporate has a direct link to your ability to last longer. Adhering to a balanced lifestyle, coupled with good eating habits can complement the aforementioned tips. It also boosts morale and allows you to enhance your sexual duration gradually.

The direct linkage lies in the body’s response to all environments and constituents we ingest. Incorporating foods rich in micronutrients could help build testosterone levels and strengthen pelvic muscles to help you last longer. Switching to a better lifestyle will help you see the visible changes and lead to more satisfying sexual experiences over time.

Summary: How To Last Longer In Bed?

In searching for answers to how to last longer in bed, we’ve found that lasting longer in bed is not a complex, overprotected secret. The essence is to tone your body as per the 11 tips and witness visible results in your sex life. Using natural calming products like CBD can help dramatically solve the mental side of this challenge. However, perseverance regarding physical exercises is paramount, as these help in natural endurance with better build and confidence. There are no free lunches. Persistence and focus are essential to lasting longer permanently, as the immediate results will not always stand the test of time.

Featuring a collection of some of the rarest Carroll Shelby cars on the planet, the Segerstrom Shelby Event Center and Museum in Irvine has created some pristine parking space for a fleet of more than 60 historic Shelby-designed automobiles, including the first 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 ever made.

For context, Carroll Shelby was an American automotive designer and race car driver, best known for his work with the British automotive company AC Cobra, and for his work on the legendary Shelby Mustang he created with Ford Motors.

Recently opened in October, the Shelby Event Center and Museum is owned by well-known Orange County residents Rae and Ted Segerstrom, who have spent their lives tinkering with cars, and years pouring over countless details of classic Shelby-designed AC Cobra and Mustang restoration projects.

Photo courtesy of Rae and Ted Segerstrom

Construction on the new facility started in January 2020 and was abruptly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We looked at several places and we found this one, and we thought we were just going to move in. We’re still doing little things, but it took until October of last year until we could finally open the doors,” Rae Segerstrom tells us during a phone call with Irvine Weekly.

Prior to the new location, the Segerstrom’s historic collection was located in Irvine, but they decided to sell and relocate, prior to the pandemic.

“We originally had a building, it was a moving and storage building in Irvine, right by John Wayne Airport, but we needed another space to park our cars,” Rae explains. “Before, it was kind of like a used car lot, the cars were just lined up. This one, there’s a lot of information, there are time capsules all around – one wall dedicated to the military for all they’ve done for us.”

Working closely with her husband Ted, Rae Segerstrom shared the details behind this impressive collection of rare cars and spoke about how the husband and wife team hopes the new Shelby Event Center and Museum will benefit the community at large.

“We want people to come enjoy it. We want people to come and learn from it. But we would also like people to come and make their memories – have their family reunion, have their wedding there,” she says. “The net proceeds that we have for our building will go to the Carroll Shelby Foundation, which helps kids that need transplants, and will also go to the Shriners For Children Medical Center in Pasadena.”

Photo courtesy of Rae and Ted Segerstrom

Thursday, Jan. 20, will mark the official grand opening for the Segerstrom Shelby Event Center. During the event, the Segerstrom’s will announce an official partnership with the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Both husband and wife learned to appreciate cars on their own, with Rae adding that she worked on cars with her father, leaving behind traditional tasks.

“It’s just something we enjoy – since a Mustang was his first car, my husband is a Mustang guy,” she says. “My dad, his first job was a gas station attendant. I grew up around working on cars with my dad. I learned how to do that instead of cook!”

Today, the husband and wife’s attention to detail has led them to own close to 100 Shelby designs. They are now hoping to share their modest collection of automotive history with the community.

“As far as collecting goes, my husband’s very first car was a hand-me-down from his sister — a 1966 Mustang. Then in 1973, he got a 1972 Mach 1 [Mustang],” she explains. “Then, he got his first Shelby, a ‘67, a GT 500, then his second was a GT500KR, which we found out was a one-of-one because of the color combination of it. So, we started looking for another one, and we found one back east.”

This has become a consistent trend for the Segerstroms over their multi-decade stint in collecting and restoring relics of American automotive history. However, through their search, the Segerstroms have uncovered revered pieces of American automotive engineering, including a set of identical twin Shelby GT500 KR.

“While the [1968 GT500 KR] was being restored, a gentleman found another one from Nevada, and just happened to bring it back to the same restoration guy,” she explains. “Well, they had consecutive serial numbers. They looked farther and they had consecutive Shelby ID numbers, and they pulled the build sheet on them and they were identical twins.”

However, the trend became somewhat problematic for the Segerstroms, as the value would outweigh the vehicle’s utility.

“OK, now we have two more that we can’t drive,” she added. “That’s kind of how the collection started. We were looking for a car that he really liked to drive. We kept finding these, and looking for things that were really rare.”

Photo courtesy of Rae and Ted Segerstrom

In terms of rarity, Irvine’s Shelby Center and Museum has the first of every AC Cobra model ever created – except for the 2000 model, which is currently parked inside a AC Cobra Museum in Colorado.

The rarest car in the building? A 1966 Paxton GT350, with a supercharged engine, which had a special owner.

“They made 11 Paxton in 1966 – only one of them was white and only one was an automatic – and that was Carroll Shelby’s. We know for sure that it’s his because a friend of ours used to work for Shelby, and when he walked in and saw that car the first thing he said was, ‘I know that car,’” she says.

The Segerstrom Shelby Event Center is located at 5 Whatney, Irvine, CA 92618

Data on the Omicron variant of COVID-19 suggests people become infectious earlier on.

Since the pandemic started, one of the most important questions scientists tried to determine is the moment when infected people become contagious with COVID-19. While all variants work similarly, there are small differences.

In the case of Omicron, a variant that’s vastly contagious, scientists have been gathering evidence over the past months to provide an answer, suggesting that people become contagious earlier than in previous variants.

Here's What You Should Know About Omicron, The New COVID-19 Variant
Photo by Kay Lau via Unsplash

“As we’ve seen these new variants develop – delta, now omicron – what we’re seeing is everything gets sped up from a COVID perspective,” Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady told NBC. “It is taking less time from when someone is exposed to COVID to potentially develop infection. It is taking less time to develop symptoms, it is taking less time that someone may be infectious and it is, for many people, taking less time to recover. A lot of that is because many more people are vaccinated.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people infected with COVID-19 become contagious days before and after their symptoms first appear. In the case of Omicron, AP News reports that this occurs earlier due to the variant causing symptoms sooner than previous versions of the virus. This might also be one of the reasons why the variant is so contagious.

Data suggests that Omicron prompts symptoms three days after infection. This could mean that people could be contagious as soon as a day after they were infected by the virus. In previous variants of COVID-19, people were contagious two to four days after they were first infected.

Once people are contagious, their tests are more likely to come back positive, presenting the chance to catch infections earlier on.

Dr. Amy Karger, from the University of Minnesota Medical School, spoke with AP News and suggested people test themselves on days three and five after exposure. “A lot of people are turning positive by day three. There’s basically an opportunity here to catch people earlier than you would with the other variants.”

If you’re experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you should get tested as soon as possible. If you think you were exposed, days three and five after exposure make for great times for testing, providing you with a chance to catch the virus earlier on and prevent its spread.

Pop singer Rebecca Black was just 13 years old when her single “Friday” blew up in 2011. Many critics were quick to jump on the track, with some even labeling it the “worst song ever.” Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. It’s definitely not the best song ever. But what it is, is the sound of a young teen having fun while singing about the joy of the weekend, creating something super-infectious, and finding an audience for the catchy pop tune. It really wasn’t intended for the adults who were irritated by it.

Fast-forward a decade and Black (not to be confused with fellow SoCal artist Beck Black) has continued along the pop path. She’s 10 years older which, when 13 is your starting point, is a lot of maturing. And her sound reflects that. Last year she released the excellent Rebecca Black Was Here EP, and she has just released the wonderful “Read My Mind” single alongside Slayyyter (another pop star who blew up online). Haters beware – she’s not going anywhere.

“I started performing when I was 3 years old,” she says during a Zoom interview. “I was a dancer for the majority of my childhood, and then that naturally progressed into singing around the time I was about 9 or 10. That was when I really found a love for it. I started performing in performance groups in Orange County where I’m from, and that naturally progressed. I was 9 or 10 when I started doing lessons and I think that would technically be when I started doing it professionally. Maybe unknowingly, because ‘Friday’ happened somewhat soon after that and I guess that started my ‘professional’ career.”

Black was born in Irvine and raised in Anaheim and, while the two counties sit side by side, she didn’t come to L.A. until she was 11 or 12.

“Orange County is and has been quite different ideologically as well, and coming to L.A., I felt much more aligned with how I felt about the world,” she says. “I met a lot of people that I felt were more aligned with what I believed. So there’s a lot of differences. California from top to bottom is completely different every couple of hours that you drive.”

The performer says that her sound is always developing, as she seeks to create something that she hasn’t heard before. No easy task with this genre.

“Everybody’s inspired by the things that they’re inspired by and, just being a fan of music and caring about music so much, I have my inspirations as much as anybody else,” she says. “But I try to make a version of that and what I envisage it to be. It’s definitely pop, and I love pop. But I also am trying to challenge myself in terms of what that label might mean for the music I make.”

That said, Black believes that pop is one of the more exciting musical genres to be involved with right now.

“I think it’s always in flux, and the only people who can really continue to push it forward are the people who care to,” she says. “I think with pop music, it’s really easy to do what works and I’ve had many people around me throughout my time growing up that I had to do what worked, that I can tell you every single one of them was so wrong. Pop music is to me one of the most exciting genres of music to be a part of, and just as a listener. That’s only been because of the people who have really thrown all caution to the wind and just done really what they felt was pushing it forward or challenging the idea of pop music itself. I think pop music could continue to develop and become a really beautiful, intrinsic piece of ourselves and music, but really you have to look in the right places, and it’s not always what’s obviously in front of you.”

To that end, her new single with Slayyyter, “Read My Mind,” has a definite punk lean. There’s some glass in the banana pudding.

“It wasn’t really our intention when we created the song actually,” Black says. “If you listen to the first demo of the song, it was actually a lot more sweet and hyper-pop than what it turned out to be. But I really enjoyed working with Slayyyter because she had found her way with those kinds of scenes and references, with her latest music as well. I really love the grittiness of the song while also being a very polished, clean, beautiful pop song. I find that exciting.”

So all signs point toward a successful 2022 for Black. She certainly has an online community that will have her back. Aspiring artists might wonder how you build that.

“I think my relationship with that might be different than other artists and maybe everybody’s is different,” she says. “But for me, the biggest challenge was overcoming what people had already made up their minds to be about what I was. Working backwards in that sense to not only figure out as I grew up from when I first made my debut, I had to figure out what I had to say and what that would mean to other people, and doing that while you’re a teenager and also while people really feel like they have a definition of who you are already – it’s definitely difficult. I always just came back to trying to be honest and any time I strayed from really following my instincts, that was always where I took missteps.”

Next year will see Black working on her full-length album, and then she has a date at the Troubadour on Jan. 21 (COVID permitting).

“That’s the final show of the tour, so I’ll be pulling out every stop and then some,” she says. “Hopefully having a few special guests come on.”

See you there.

Rebecca Black’s “Read My Mind” single with Slayyyter is out now. She performs on January 21 with Alice Longyu Gao at the Troubadour

With the ever-growing market and abundance of brands, the number of products available to consumers are just about endless. There are over 120 cannabinoids and delta-8 THC is one of the newest cannabinoids gaining popularity.

Delta-8 THC is a cousin of traditional THC or delta-9. The two share a similar structure with a few key differences in chemical makeup. Delta-8 has double bond on the eighth carbon chain while delta-9 has it on the ninth. This slight difference is thought to impact how to cannabinoids effect users. Some consumers of delta-8 have reported decreased psychoactive effects than with delta-9. Delta-8 is also allegedly thought to have potential for therapeutic properties like stress relief, appetite stimulation and sleep aid.

It is important to note the differences between both CBD and delta-8 THC and later versus delta-9 THC. A new study found that a common element found in popular products is responsible for inflammation in the gut.

Triclosan is a compound that was banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016. Still, we continue to encounter it often in the products we use in our daily lives, most commonly toothpaste. Why is it so bad? A new studyconducted on mice found that triclosan can trigger inflammation in their guts, resulting in GI stress.

According to different studies, triclosan has been harmful in animals in a variety of ways, decreasing their thyroid hormones, making bacteria resistant to antibiotics, and messing with their guts. While these results haven’t been seen in humans — there have been no triclosan experiments conducted on them — they were sufficient enough to raise the alarm bells of different health experts.

While this recent study confirmed the belief that triclosan is harmful to mice, it was also able to pinpoint the part of triclosan that was responsible for causing gut inflammation, something that could help scientists address these types of GI issues and block this effect. “By identifying the culprit bacteria, new approaches could be developed for the diagnoses, prevention and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases,” said study author Matthew Redinbo, M.D.

Triclosan has long been used in a variety of everyday products, intended to reduce bacterial contamination and prevent the spread of gingivitis. It’s normally found in antibacterial soaps, body washes, and cosmetics. Its presence in toothpaste is particularly worrisome though since it can linger in toothbrush bristles and build up over time, making it easy for people to ingest it.

While researchers are working on a solution for this issue, it will likely be some time before the necessary protective element is available in toothpaste brands and everyday products. To limit your exposure to it, you should read the drug contents label in your toothpaste, purchasing brands that don’t contain triclosan. You should also change your toothbrush regularly, ensuring that not a lot of triclosan builds up in your bristles.

Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Kanye West (billed as Ye) will headline the two weekends of the returning Coachella festival in April.

Due to COVID, the 2020 event was initially postponed for six months before eventually being canceled altogether. The 2021 festival was a no-go from the get-go. None of the announced 2020 headliners (Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean) have been retained.

Other highlights of this year’s bill include Spiritualized, Megan Thee Stallion, Danny Elfman, the Regrettes, Doja Cat, Fatboy Slim and Chicano Batman. See the full lineup below.

An announcement from Goldenvoice reads: “Register now for the weekend two presale and receive a unique code to purchase passes starting Friday, January 14 at 10 am PT. This is a presale and does not guarantee pass type, packages, or camping. YouTube returns in 2022 as the official livestream partner for both Coachella weekends on the festival’s official YouTube channel, marking its tenth year streaming the fest to millions of music fans around the world.  Official Hotel Travel Packages are available for weekend one and weekend two, sold exclusively through Valley Music Travel. For more festival information and updates, please visit www.coachella.com.”

Meanwhile, Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins and the Steve Miller Band will headline May’s Beachlife Festival in Redondo Beach. The Black Pumas, Stone Temple Pilots, Sheryl Crow and UB40 are further highlights. See the full lineup below.

“Especially during these dynamic and uncertain times, BeachLife Festival has become something that the beach community can look forward to, breathe easy, and smile. Watching the greatest bands in the world with the ocean breeze of the Pacific and the sunset at our back is something that we never get tired of, and we look forward to sharing that experience again to a sold-out but spaced out audience,” said BeachLife co-founder / producer Allen Sanford.
